Brad Oberhofer‘s emotional, ramshackle pop first caught our attention with 2010′s “Away Frm U”. He’s since signed a deal with the Glassnote label, home to the likes of Phoenix and Kele, where he’ll release his debut full-length Time Capsule II on March 27. Oberhofer hones his formula on the album’s grandiose opening track, “HEART”, which makes use of some sparkling keys and orchestral strings. Check it out below:

Australian post-rock gods Dirty Three return with a new album, Toward the Low Sun, on February 28. It’s the band’s debut for Drag City, and their first record since Cinder was released seven years ago on Touch Go. (Although the band’s 2000 album Whatever You Love, You Are was reissued on the Playbutton format last year.) In the time since their last album, members Jim White, Warren Ellis, and Mick Turner have played with the likes of Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Cat Power, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Bill Callahan and others. Below, Listen to the track “Rising Below”, via Drag City.

On January 30, The Vinyl Factory will release a 12″ single featuring remixes of Roxy Music tunes from Norwegian space-disco masters and remix experts Todd Terje and Lindstrom Prins Thomas. Here’s Terje’s “Disco Dub” of Roxy Music’s “Love Is the Drug”, a cut from the band’s 1975 album Siren; Lindstrom Prins Thomas tackle the title track to 1982′s swan song Avalon on the flipside.

It’s been nearly five years since the Shins released their last album, 2007′s underrated Wincing the Night Away. That’s quite a while in internet time, and a lot’s changed since James Mercer first sang about “the dirt in your fries”, so it’s been hard to measure what expectations are for the Shins’ forthcoming album, Port of Morrow. It’s a relief, then, that the album’s first single, “Simple Song”, finds that Mercer and his new bandmates are still able to turn out exceptional guitar jangle with big-hearted melodic aims. The complex production that was embraced on Wincing the Night Away is used to arena-sized aim here, with a chunky power-pop riff that couples nicely with Mercer’s still-got-it penchant for unspooled lovelorn observations. Despite the drastic changes to the musical landscape over the last half-decade, there’s still room for tracks like “Simple Song”, as long as bands like the Shins can do them this well.

You’ve heard the original, you’ve heard the Diplo remix– and now, Three 6 Mafia‘s Juicy J and Project Pat have jumped on UK producer Star Slinger‘s “Dumbin’” (now renamed “Chain Dumbin”), still featuring a vocal take from Reggie B.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back on the Internet…bizarro sound architect James Ferraro‘s possibly-joking, possibly-not Bebetune$ project (now with an added “$” symbol, because, why not) has returned with a new track, the inexplicably named “##BLACK AND RED #”. This song (the name of which I refuse to type out ever again) is not from the first Bebetune$ mixtape released at the end of 2011, Inhale C-4 $$$$$– rather, it’s from the project’s currently untitled second mixtape, due in mid-February. The description for this one on Soundcloud goes a little something like this: “#INFRAREDPUNK #FLAMETHROWERPUNK #LIQUIDMETALPUNK #BLADEPUNK”. So many punks!
